Xtralis ASIM - Intersection Control Solutions and Traffic Data Acquisition

Xtralis ASIM, founded in 1990 in Switzerland, is a leading manufacturer of non-video, non-intrusive detectors for road traffic data acquisition and intersection control applications, including software and tools to facilitate the installation process. All ASIM detectors are designed and manufactured in Switzerland under an ISO 9001 certified quality system. ASIM has gained a reputation for providing products of superior quality, reliability and longevity thanks to precision engineering and dedicated staff. ASIM also operates a sales office in Massachusetts, USA.

ASIM offers:

  • Intersection control products used for the detection of approaching cars, cars at the stop line and pedestrians on the curb or crossing
  • Traffic data acquisition products used to determine volume, vehicle speed, length, occupancy, headway and vehicle class – depending on model

TT 290 SERIES – TRAFFIC DATA ACQUISITION AND VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION

The TT 290 series models are triple-technology traffic detectors designed for overhead mounting (on a gantry, sign-bridge or overpass) providing vehicle volume, speed, occupancy, headway, and length and vehicle classification into two, five or eight vehicle classes (current classification according to TLS 2002).

The detector integrates Doppler radar, ultrasonic and passive infrared detection into one device. Multiple devices can be operated in a daisy-chain configuration via RS 485. Along with the RS 485 to RS 232 (or USB) interface, the installation and configuration software ASIM-T enables the installer to commission all detectors automatically and provides a detailed report upon successful commissioning.

Triple-technology detectors, introduced in 2000 as TT 260 series, have experienced tremendous success thanks to their reliability, accuracy, small size and weight (<5lb including bracket).

IR 250 SERIES – BASIC TRAFFIC DATA ACQUISITION

The IR 250 series of traffic detectors offers a low-cost yet powerful way to acquire traffic data on highways or arterial roads. Traffic data provided includes volume, speed (at ±10% over 20 events) and approximate vehicle length output via RS 485. The detectors are specifically designed for solar-powered installations and can be easily combined with radio or cellular data transmission systems. Typical power consumption is less than 50mW, making these units a prime candidate for traffic data acquisition in urban and rural areas.

Over 10,000 units are installed in Germany alone, most of them in solar-powered systems featuring GPRS transmission systems. Protected in an anodised aluminium enclosure, the detector's reliability and longevity have drawn favourable attention since its introduction.

MW 230 SERIES – COST-EFFECTIVE DETECTION OF APPROACHING OR RECEDING CARS AT INTERSECTIONS

The MW 231, 232 and 233 vehicle detectors are designed for detection of approaching or receding vehicles at intersections in permanent or temporary installations. The MW 231 requires no configuration at all. Approaching vehicles toggle the contact closure output, signalling the traffic control system to request or extend the green phase.

The MW 232 and 233 models feature a few options, such as minimum speed threshold, bi-directional or approach-only detection, and low and high sensitivity. No installation or configuration accessories are needed. The MW detectors are pure Doppler radar detectors, built in an anodised aluminium enclosure for maximum durability.

IR 200P SERIES – PEDESTRIAN DETECTORS

These detectors are specifically designed for the detection of pedestrians on crossings, to extend the green phase of the pedestrian cycle. These units reliably detect pedestrians walking into or through the detection zone. They are ideal for need-based triggering of flashing beacons near school zones and other crossings where timer-controlled or permanent flashers do not meet the specific needs of the prevalent usage pattern.

The IR 200P series pedestrian detectors use very little power and are well suited for solar-powered installations. They are also protected by an anodised aluminium enclosure to ensure a long service life.

To facilitate the installation process, ASIM offers the IT 24 installation tester, a stand-alone, detector powered handheld tester that visualises the detection strength on a LCD and the state of the relays output using a built-in buzzer.
