Diamond Consulting Services Ltd. (DCS), owners and developers of the patented Idris technology, was established in 1991. DCS is a specialist research and development company working within the road traffic industry. A small family owned business, with a team of dedicated staff, DCS supplies vehicle detection and classification products. Idris is one of the most advanced Automatic Vehicle detection and Classification (AVC) systems available. This intelligent transport solution has a number of product manifestations and is used in a variety of traffic applications from data collection to Open Road Tolling (ORT). The Idris software is currently installed and operational worldwide in applications requiring vehicle count, separation and classification in all traffic environments and weather conditions. IN-GROUND LOOP TECHNOLOGYIn-ground loops are multiple turns of wire positioned into the road surface and connected to a detection device which records the inductance from the loop as a vehicle passes over. Idris uses the inductive vehicle profile obtained from the loop detector to achieve its phenomenal detection and classification accuracy. An Idris system will last as long as the road surface with little or no maintenance required. IDRIS DISTRIBUTIONTo enable the distribution of this loop-based technology, DCS has a number of Idris Technology Partners (ITPs). These ITPs are responsible for the implementation, integration and support of Idris. All ITPs undergo specialist training to qualify them as Idris Certified Engineers (ICE). ITPs include system integrators, manufacturers, distributors and industry consultants. ITPs include, ACS State and Local Solutions, Conservacion y Sistemas, Electro Automation Group Ltd., Information Methods Inc., OSI Laserscan, Traffic Technologies Inc., Quixote Traffic Corporation, ETC, IBI Group, Nortech International, Northstar Controls and Peek Traffic. VEHICLE DETECTION AND CLASSIFICATION APPLICATIONSIdris software is ideal for use in many applications: Tolling: a single technology solution for Automatic Vehicle Classification (AVC) and axle-based classification, suitable for all lane types including manual, Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) and multi-lane Open Road Tolling (ORT). This includes the ability for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) correlation, putting the correct vehicle with the associated tag and initiating a trigger for the Vehicle Enforcement System (VES). Shadow tolling: used when there is no culture of conventional tolling. Idris was originally designed for use in Design Build Finance and Operate (DBFO) schemes in the UK. Intelligent vehicle detection: bus priority without the need for 'in vehicle' technology, with a configurable rule file for region specific vehicles. Data collection: operates in free-flow, congested and stop-go traffic, and includes the ability to correctly identify straddling and tailgating vehicles. Incident detection: accurately detects single stopped vehicles anywhere in the system and is effective in all traffic flows. The Idris incident detection system is designed to give warning of hazardous incidents in the roadway to allow traffic management / alarm systems to be deployed. Speed enforcement: a single function speed solution capable of obtaining highly accurate speed data from standard loop sensors installed under the carriageway on a short base line. Idris Technology is protected by one or more of the following patents: EP0879457, USA 6345228 and 6337640. Patent applications are pending in other countries.
