Excel Technology Group was established in 1989 and provides high-performance vehicle detection products. This product range includes both non-intrusive radar and video-image based detectors, and in-pavement detector technology. These products count, measure, classify, categorise and weigh moving vehicles. Traffic and vehicle-detection related functions calculated within the detector include incident detection (including HiOCC), vehicle classification by length and electromagnetic profile analysis, vehicle classification by length and axle counting, and vehicle weigh in motion (WIM). The data may be stored internally on an exchangeable compact flash disc, retrieved in real-time or retrieved under remote computer control. LOOP-BASED VEHICLE DETECTORSLoop-based vehicle detectors are available in two-channel to 16-channel single-board configurations which incorporate either contact closure or serial data output indicating a vehicle actuation. The circuitry tunes to a resonant frequency within 15ms and the microprocessor program constantly monitors the loop for failure. The detector retunes after a preset occupancy period and operational parameters may be set manually or through a serial communication port. Applications include traffic-signal control, access control and counting applications. VEHICLE DETECTOR CLASSIFIERSExcel Technology Group has developed a range of loop and piezo-based vehicle detector classifiers. Dual loops provide for eight vehicle types while a combination of two loops and a single piezo classifies 14 vehicle types. Both versions perform similar functions: incident detection (HiOCC), vehicle classification (length and vehicle electromagnetic profile) and vehicle categorisation (length and axle placement). The loop detector classifier provides real-time incident-detection data records, aggregate traffic-monitoring data and historical vehicle-categorisation data. VEHICLE WEIGH IN MOTION SYSTEMSWe have also developed a range of high-speed weigh in motion detector classifiers which provide vehicle data records that indicate vehicle weight, axle configuration, axle group weight, GVM, speed and headway while the vehicle is in motion. These circuit modules and associated functions are available in a single chassis with multiple-card configuration, or as a standalone, dual-channel module. Data is logged onto internal compact flash discs or available in real-time via a serial communication facility. IMAGE-PROCESSING VEHICLE DETECTORThe XL-VVD image-processing vehicle detector was developed as a non-intrusive simple traffic controller ‘stop-bar’ loop-replacement detector. The video vehicle detector may also be used in other related applications, e.g. pedestrian detection and in-bikeway applications. The video detector indicates actuations from four zones and multiple video detectors at a single site are configurable over a local radio network from a single point, typically the traffic controller cabinet. Detection algorithms are optimised for specific sites through user-configurable parameters. Adjustment selection of these parameters requires approximately 5min. IN-PAVEMENT TEST EQUIPMENTThis rugged field service instrument is purpose designed for in-pavement loop fault and error analysis. The basic LT-100 unit utilises a single-loop feeder connection to initiate a measurement operation which displays, on an alpha-numeric LCD panel, all relevant in-pavement loop parameters, including open circuit, short circuit, DC resistance, inductance, loop 'Q' and tuned frequency. Additionally an analogue bar graph display indicates a vehicle actuation incorporating the relevant ‘electromagnetic’ change associated with the vehicle detection. The more advanced LT1000 features include all LT100 functions, a probe which locates concealed loop windings and a single-button actuation for loop insulation integrity evaluation. Analysing in-pavement loop problems has never been as easy as it is with our simple, single-connection, easy to use in-pavement loop tester.
