We are a 'solutions provider' for the intelligent transport systems industry, providing traffic data to help tackle congestion, promote sustainable travel and support the delivery of national and local transport objectives.

Our range of products and solutions are robust, reliable and proven, with many bespoke solutions developed in collaboration with our customers. In addition, we offer support and maintenance services with current contracts, for example, the maintenance of the UK's Department for Transport national core traffic census system, and the ITS supplier and maintainer to Transport for Greater Manchester.

Bluetooth traffic monitoring systems

We were the first to market with a cost effective and efficient alternative to traditional ANPR camera systems. The HI-TRAC® BLUE2, launched towards the end of 2014, and is the second generation of this innovative product.

The system detects anonymous Bluetooth signals to derive traffic journey time information, as well as traffic movements (origin and destination). Over 1000 systems have been supplied to customers around the globe.

Packed with even more features and scalability, the HI-TRAC® BLUE2 is designed, manufactured and developed exclusively by TDC with all new features, including Wi-Fi detection, increased processing power, increased storage and integration, and compatibility with other applications.

Traffic counters and classifiers

We offer a complete range of systems, including volumetric counters, loop profiling classifiers, axle classifiers, handheld data-loggers and non-intrusive counters / classifiers.

Our new and revolutionary HI-TRAC® UTC range includes small, low powered, low cost electronic systems, capable of monitoring up to eight lanes of traffic.

The UTC systems use the TDC established loop and sensor technology, with our TDC Advanced Loop Profiling functionality to detect mixed traffic, whilst recording other characteristics such as vehicle weight, classification, speed, wheelbase, gap and headway.

For those requiring additional functionality, the HI-TRAC® EMU3 is the 3rd generation of our highly successful event monitoring system, which now includes a 32MB flash memory, greater processing power and significantly lower power consumption.

High-end functionality is delivered by rack-mounted systems, in the form of the HI-TRAC® TMU range, which incorporates embedded Ethernet, VPN and FTP, as well as extensive 8GB data storage.

Cycle and pedestrian monitoring systems

Similar in design to the UTC range of products, the HI-TRAC® CMU uses established piezo-electric sensor technology to detect bicycles in dedicated cycle-ways or mixed traffic lanes, as well as an optional integrated pyro-electric infra-red sensor to detect pedestrians.

Unique algorithms distinguish true bicycles from other traffic, including child scooters, prams, trolleys, mopeds and motorbikes, a major advantage over inductive loop-based detection technology.

Our unique cluster detection technology accurately detects large volumes of cyclists, and can be further interfaced at a signalised junction to incorporate a cycle priority phase, an added safety benefit removing the conflict of vehicles and cyclists at busy junctions.

A cycle information display installed next to the cycle path can be integrated with the CMU range of products to display dynamic information about cycle and pedestrian use.

Weigh-in-motion systems

One of our most prestigious product ranges includes high-speed, low-speed and portable weigh-in-motion systems, which have been supplied to over 50 countries across the world.

Applications include asset management, bridge load monitoring, vehicle weight enforcement systems and virtual weigh-stations, all with the optional integration of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology.

High-speed systems are installed in the highway and accurately weigh and classify vehicles at normal speeds using unobtrusive but easily installed piezo-electric sensors or Kistler® Linear Quartz sensors as the weighing medium.

Low-speed systems are typically installed with an axle weighbeam at off-road sites such as enforcement stations or in transport firm's premises.

Owing to its high degree of accuracy, the enforcement station can be used as the means to confirm gross and individual axle weights detected at a high speed WIM site that has been installed for pre-selection purposes.

Solutions for sustainability

Other new TDC initiatives include the Hi-TRAC® iGATE and the HI-TRAC® PM Roadside Particle Monitor. The HI-TRAC® iGATE is an intelligent gateway device that reduces communication costs by interfacing with multiple roadside monitoring systems.

The HI-TRAC® PM automatically measures real-time airborne PM10, PM2.5, or TSP particulate concentration at any roadside location. The remote sensor interfaces seamlessly with the HI-TRAC® iGATE and offers real time air quality information.

In addition, TDC Systems are providing technical and statistical expertise to the EcoVehicle S!7219 Project, which will build on the Eureka Research and Development Project Footprint S!2468 by adding to existing measurement sites, investigating noise measuring equipment, developing a noise emission index within the overall classification of vehicles and a method for costing environmental noise.
