SES has always devoted a large amount of time to innovation, to improve the performance of our variable message signs (VMS) and above all our service to our customers.
It was with these aims that SES signed a research agreement with French scientific institutions such as Institut National pour l'Energie Solaire (INES), the National Institute for Solar Energy, and Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA), the Atomic Energy Board, in order to design the very first solution in VMS dedicated to motorways and totally free of energy.
This new generation of VMS, Optima™, brings the following benefits:
- Ability to choose the installation site — Optima can be installed wherever it is needed, regardless of main power supply or communication network being close to the VMS and can be in operation 365 days a year
- Enhanced safety — it is now possible to inform road users at the most appropriate place to make traffic safer, and be able to facilitate the flow of traffic and regulate it
- Better signalisation — a VMS free of energy does not mean technical compromise or lower performances: taking advantage of the latest technologies available in VMS, Optima is compliant to the EN12966 European standard and can be run immediately after being installed
- Reduced installation costs, as you no longer need to connect a VMS to main supply, costs for civil works and excavation works largely decrease
- Lower running costs — a VMS free of energy means reduction of running costs, as there is no subscription to main supply network or electrical power consumption; quick, simple and easy maintenance also helps cut down running costs
- Reduction in your ecological footprint: by only using solar energy, Optima strengthens the environment protection approach led by highways companies in a visible and efficient way
