Road drainage systems, electrical pits and manhole covers

Highways and motorways provide the most challenging environments for drainage systems, electrical pits and manhole covers. A variety of vehicle types, from cars to semi trailers, can impose severe stress on road surfaces by travelling at high speeds, and breaking and turning in various weather conditions, 24 hours a day.

Only proven, reliable, quality products are used in these applications. Drainage systems need to work efficiently to ensure surface water is removed quickly and that accidents caused by aquaplaning do not occur.

Linear Trench Drains

ACO is an industry-leading manufacturer of linear drainage systems for transportation infrastructure, including heavy-duty applications such as roads and motorways, container ports and airport tarmacs.

Highway grated-trench drainage systems

ACO's TraffikDrain is a polymer concrete trench drain with either a bolted HiFlo grate for optimum water drainage from road surfaces, or a Heelsafe^® grate to ensure total pedestrian and cyclist safety in pedestrianised areas. Heelsafe grates are fixed with the boltless PowerLok locking system, for easy maintenance access.

Both grates are 40-tonne rated and AS 3996 bicycle wheel compliant in both directions.

The ductile iron edge rail on each unit is fitted with shock-absorbing widgets with stainless steel threads to reduce noise. Anti-shunt recesses on the grate slot in to the edge rail to prevent longitudinal movement and further improve safety.

Interlocking precast drainage kerbs

ACO's KerbDrain interlocking integrally-cast drainage kerbs form a continual profiled channel alongside the road, ideal for use where there is limited space between the edge of the carriageway and the kerb. The kerb is lined with 57mm wide x 107mm high inlets for uninterrupted drainage, and the captured water flows straight to the stormwater system.

A modular system with drop, driveway and walkway centre kerbs is also available for use where level access for pedestrians and vehicles may be required, such as streets and car parks.

Heavy-duty drainage for fast-moving traffic

ACO's Monoblock polymer concrete drain has been designed specifically for use in areas of heavy and fast-moving traffic, as its large-scale, single-unit design is robust enough to prevent components from vibrating loose when driven over at high speeds. This resistance makes it ideal for situations where drainage must be positioned within the flow of traffic.

Typical applications for Monoblock include airport pavements, container ports, highways and motorways, industrial parks and distribution centres. The units' weight and anchorage to the surrounding concrete also makes it perfect for use in high-security applications, as there's no risk of parts being removed to gain unauthorised access.

Slot drainage systems

Made up of 2m long medium-density polyethelene (MDPE) units, ACO's Qmax drains can be used in both small and large applications such as airports, container ports, industrial parks, distribution centres, and highways and motorways. Qmax comes in five sizes to best fit your requirements, and step connectors are available for easy transition.

Push-fit connections between units ensure a water-tight seal, and the ribbed design and tough, corrosion-resistant MPDE material affords strength and stability throughout installation and use, as well as being corrosion resistant.

Road cable pits and surface ducting systems

ACO CABLEMATE is Australasia's most extensive range of trafficable cable pits and continuous surface ducting systems for the electrical, communications and construction industries.

ACO's upgraded range complies with Main Roads' specification and is manufactured to Main Roads' standard drawings. All lids are tested to AS3996-2006 and have an electrical insulation coating that meets the AS/NZS1580.408.5-2006 standard.
