Pecan Lighting is the Australia and New Zealand distributor of the Satellite range of LED street lights from LED Roadway Lighting of Nova Scotia, Canada (LRL). LRL manufactures high-quality LED street lighting with a true 20 year lifespan.
Pecan Lighting also manufactures solar-powered lighting incorporating LRL Satellite LED street lights. Solar-powered lighting is available in standalone and grid-tied solar public lighting (GTSPL) versions.
LRL is currently the only company in the world building Mil Spec-LED drivers for LED street lights. This high-reliability electronic driver allied with a single piece cast aluminium body provides the ideal environment for the LED light engines. With MTBF rates of between 1.5 and 3 million hours, the LRL Satellite range offers a true 20-year lifespan.
Nichia LEDs are utilised exclusively for the light engines, with a standard colour temperature of 5,000K, and are selected from only the top bins. The LRL Satellite range is available with a number of different street lighting optics including: NEMA Type II, Type IIW, Type III and the ANZ Optic that is specifically designed to meet AS/NZS 1158.3.1-2005 P Class Roadway Lighting standards.
Two sized bodies are currently available containing between 24 and 96 LEDs. LED drive currents of 280mA, 350mA, 450mA, 525mA and 600mA equal a wattage range of between 22W and 201W. The LRL Satellite range of LED street lights are suitable for lighting all classes of AS/NZS 1158 P Class and V Class.
Pecan Lighting is Australia's longest serving manufacturer of solar-powered lighting, having been in the industry since the early 1980s. With the availability of our LRL Satellite range of ELV LED street lights we now have the ideal product for solar powered lighting.
The 12V-24V DC LRL Satellite is a perfect partner for our Pecan standalone solar pole. If no power infrastructure exists and outdoor lighting is required then solar-powered lighting is the best choice. A simple hole in the ground (45cm diameter by 110cm deep) is all that is required as our solar lighting system follows a one hole one pole philosophy.
The battery box doubles as the pole foundation keeping the battery cool and in a secure and known location. A simple mix of dry cement and expelled dirt (at a ratio of 1:10) tamped down around the battery box is all that is needed to hold the pole in place.
Pecan GTSPL differs from standalone solar lighting as there is no battery to charge. Instead the energy produced by the PV array is converted into 230V 50Hz by a pole-mounted micro inverter. The generated energy feeds back into the local power grid during daylight hours and can generate income via an applicable solar FIT scheme. The street light then runs off grid power at night.
A GTSPL system can be power-neutral, power-positive or power-negative, based on the size of the PV array versus the power requirements of the street light. An advantage of GTSPL is there is no restriction on the type and wattage of the street light. The decision becomes how much of the energy consumed by the street light will be off-set by the solar array.
The LRL Satellite LED street light is the ideal environmentally friendly luminaire for GTSPL systems as it has a flat glass type optic with no upward wasted light. LEDs are mercury-free, emit no UV and therefore do not tend to attract flying insects. No additional wiring is required for a GTSPL system, with the addition of an import / export meter on the lighting circuit being the only deviation from standard.
