Nordstan Shopping Mall and Milan Fair Equipped with SKIDATA Revenue Control Technology

28 November 2005

Sweden's biggest shopping mall, Nordstan, and Italy's largest car park at the Nuovo Polo Milan Fair exhibition centre have been equipped with revenue control systems by Austrian-based specialist SKIDATA™.

In both cases, security, convenience and intelligent revenue control were critical factors in the decision to opt for the SKIDATA solution.

Based in Gothenburg in southern Sweden, Nordstan is the country's largest supermall. Its 200 stores are visited by an average of 50,000 customers every day. Traffic at the mall's 2,700 bay parking garage is usually heavy, with peak volumes in excess of 5,000 vehicles a day.

Last year Nordstan's operators decided it was time to replace the existing SKIDATA Parking System 440, which had run successfully since 1995, with a newer system. SKIDATA was selected as the most competent provider, and the mall was equipped with proven APT 450 technology, which has been running successfully since June. The system comprises six entrances, 13 exits, nine pay-on-foot machines, and five operator workstations for convenient system operation. It also comes with a range of smart features, including occupancy counting on every floor and 3C credit card payment with on-line authorisation.

Project execution for the new Milan Fair started last November and was completed in time for the official opening. The fair complex consists of eight interconnected halls with a total exhibition area of 530,000m², as well as 80 conference halls, 20 restaurants and 25 bars.

Where parking is concerned, speed and accuracy requirements were particularly stringent to ensure smooth, trouble-free parking for up to 10,000 vehicles. The SKIDATA system, which includes 25 entrance and exit gates as well as 20 pay-on-foot stations, connects to a traffic guidance system and comes with several intelligent control features that sustain functionality and preserve critical data even in the event of a total blackout.
