SI-3 Accepted for Patent Consideration

27 March 2007

The SI-3 radar unit by Decatur Electronics, Inc, has been accepted by the U.S. Patent Office for patent consideration.

The innovative K-band radar features a unique on-board printed circuit board that allows for enhanced speed collection and data processing and sets new standards in configurability and stand-alone size, according to lead engineer, Kimble Smith.

"We've taken the technology we used in our popular SI-2 and made several important changes," said Smith. "We reduced the form factor and added more options so it's even more versatile."

Decatur's SI series is an all-in-one radar package, unlike traditional dash-mounted radar. The entire processing unit is housed in an antenna just larger than a can of soda. Information outputs in a wide variety of formats. SI radar units are widely used by radar speed trailers manufacturers as well as other industries, even seeing time on the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge race track as part of a self-driving vehicle's navigation system. More than 5,000 of the durable units are sold each year, with that number increasing worldwide.

Decatur Electronics' SI-3 is innovation law enforcement has sought, said Greg Roberts, sales manager for the company.

"The SI-3 takes radar to a new level," he explained. "Our customers wanted more features in a smaller package, so we met those demands. We're proud to now have a patent pending on that technology."

The successor for SI-2 is now available at Decatur Electronics Europe for fast delivery and fully CE approved and certified.
