BarrierGuard 800 has recently been deployed along a busy stretch of the M27 between Junction 11 and 12 on both sides of the motorway. BarrierGuard 800 steel safety barrier, specifically designed for use at road works on high speed roads, was chosen by Costain for its low deflection with Simon Taylor, Senior Traffic Safety and control Officer of Costain adding: "Highway Care's BarrierGuard was chosen for this particular scheme due to our requirement for a time and cost efficient temporary barrier solution.

"Within two weeks of receiving instruction from Costain, Highway Care was on site and within four shifts over 6km of barrier was installed. BarrierGuard’s low deflection (1.0m) enabled our traffic management layout to provide the maximum amount of working space behind the barrier and suitable lane widths for our narrow lane set up."

Over 6km of BarrierGuard 800 was installed in two runs on both the eastbound and westbound carriageways. Currently the M27, between Junction 11 and 12, is undergoing major reconstruction by Costain, working on behalf of the Highways Agency (client) and Owen Williams (designers). The motorway is being upgraded and widened on both sides to include a crawler lane along the westbound carriageway. With BarrierGuard 800 in place, positive protection is provided to both the workforce and passing motorists while the M27 is being widened.

BarrierGuard 800's low deflection and high containment is demonstrated through it being the only temporary steel barrier in the world to have met the requirements of both EN1317 - 2 (containment levels N2 and H2) and NCHRP 350 (TL 4).
