The highway authorities of North Bavaria, responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of the region's highways, have recently had a new control room installed to provide a better functionality of the operational tasks. The main part of this control room is a large screen display from eyevis which guarantees the reliable visualisation of the control and surveillance systems for the 18 operators.
18 (6x3) EC-50-SXC rear-projection-cubes were combined to a video wall with a total screen diagonal of more than 6.4m. The se¬amless design of the cubes allows minimal gaps of less than 0.6mm between the indi¬vidual cubes. The system is completed by an eyevis NPX graphic controller and eyecon wall management software. The system was connected to the existing Sie¬mens software environment that provides traffic control data.
Various different data and video sources can be displayed on the video wall simultaneous¬ly. The individual windows can be placed and scaled freely on the wall. The Netpix split controller allows free scaling and placing of the connected sources on the video wall. These sources are video signals, sy¬stem applications and UNIX platforms. Diffe¬rent presets can be started, which give a quick overview on the traffic situation, weather con¬ditions and the situation inside the tunnels of the district.
The eyecon software controls the wall content. It is possible to play pre-defined wall presets that regularly change wall content. Other tools of the eyecon software make the work with the system much more economic. For example, if there is fire detected inside a tunnel, the referring video cameras, system messages and affected road maps are auto¬matically displa¬yed on the video wall.
The installation in Nuremberg contains the following eyevis components:
