Highway Information Systems - Traveler Information SystemsAn affiliate of Quixote Transportation Technologies, Inc., Highway Information Systems, Inc. (HIS) is the largest and leading provider of Traveler Information Stations / Highway Advisory Radio systems (TIS/HAR) in the United States. HIS handles the entire HAR process in a truly turnkey fashion including pre-installation site surveys and FCC frequency research, FCC license application services, and equipment manufacturing, installation, warranty and servicing. HIWAY MAX® HIGHWAY ADVISORY RADIO SYSTEMThe Hiway Max product is a stationary HAR system that utilizes AM radio frequencies to broadcast messages to motorists within a four to six-mile radius. The system is typically used to notify motorists of traffic conditions, local points of interest, or emergency and evacuation information. Messages can be changed remotely by touch-tone telephone or computer. The Hiway Max application is energy-efficient, easy to operate and can be installed virtually anywhere when used with solar-powered components and cellular phone communications. The Hiway Max system can be installed as a single unit or as a network of GPS synchronized systems that can be operated from one or more control points. It is simple to record comprehensive messages and allow motorists to receive constant updates throughout your area and beyond. SOLAR MAX® MOBILE HIGHWAY ADVISORY RADIO SYSTEMThe Solar Max product is a mobile HAR system that utilizes AM radio frequencies to broadcast messages to motorists within a three to five-mile radius. Because of its mobility, the Solar Max application offers agencies the flexibility to install multiple sites where they are most needed. The Solar Max system is powered by an environmentally safe solar system and stores energy in high-performance, Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries, providing dependable service around the clock and during extended periods of inclement weather. Messages are stored for years in the on-board digital recorder; the system can be easily set up and broadcasting messages within minutes. DR2000™ HIGHWAY ADVISORY RADIO AND VMS CONTROL SYSTEMThe DR2000 system is a central control software application that allows control of highway advisory radio, flashing beacon systems and variable messages signs. The system supports message recording, review, selection and scheduling for HARs and variable message signs. The graphical user interface comes complete with a geographic map with icons for highway advisory radios, variable message signs and flashing beacon locations. The software is user-friendly and can be used to schedule message play lists, emergency messages and weather radio broadcasts. The software system communicates with HARs, flashing beacons and variable message signs using readily available communication methods and operates in a secure environment. INTELLIZONE® MOTORIST INFORMATION SOFTWAREThe IntelliZone system is an advanced ITS software platform that allows users to manage and deliver real-time messages to motorists well in advance of weather related concerns or traffic congestion. The IntelliZone software accumulates sensor information and automatically updates dynamic message signs and highway advisory radio broadcast messages to reflect traffic conditions ahead. The IntelliZone software is used to configure the system, set thresholds, monitor system status and retrieve data logs for analysis and archiving. IntelliZone software is NTCIP (National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol) compliant, which simplifies the integration of other field devices. The modular, scalable and flexible architecture enables basic configuration to be easily modified to meet unique project requirements. ADVANCEWARN™ TRAFFIC WARNING SYSTEMThe AdvanceWarn product is a unique system that utilizes traffic monitoring sensors, Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) that sense weather and pavement conditions, highway advisory radios and permanent or portable message signs. The AdvanceWarn system is a completely integrated advanced warning system to monitor current conditions and inform motorists of hazardous weather and traffic problems. The AdvanceWarn system works by first using RWIS to collect data from traffic, pavement and atmospheric weather sensors. Then IntelliZone software analyzes the data and, when conditions warrant, sends a message to the HARs and portable message signs along the roadway. The highway advisory radio and portable message signs automatically update, in real-time, to provide hazardous weather and traffic conditions to motorists.
