The SWARCO Traffic Management division (STM) with companies in Austria, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Italy, Hungary, the USA and China provides high-tech solutions for urban traffic control, motorway and tunnel systems, public transport and parking.

In addition to brilliant LED technology for traffic lights, VMS and in-road markers, the STM division integrates the development of traffic controllers and related software products as well as installation, maintenance and project management services.

LED SIGNALLING TECHNOLOGY

Our customers can rely on top-quality LED signalling technology made by Austrian-based SWARCO FUTURIT. It is a core competence of this company to optimise the light output of LEDs by developing special optical systems for traffic lights and variable message signs.

The AluStar signal head with central FUTURLED3 light source is one example of how European cities save energy and money while offering brilliant signal lights to their road users. Another example is FUTURIT's dynamic road marking solution called LaneLight. This versatile in-road marker makes road markings dynamic and creates additional guidance, routing and safety on highways, at black spots, zebra crossings or level crossings.

MOTORWAY AND TUNNEL PROJECTS

Besides fully graphic traffic information displays, variable message signs and lane control signals, STM is able to supply motorway and tunnel systems that integrate road safety equipment such as Automatic Incident Detection (AID), road weather information systems and road barriers.

PARKING PROJECTS

STM is particularly strong in parking due to its cooperation with Skidata in Scandinavia. SWARCO can provide complete parking guidance solutions, from single-site to citywide systems, from the motorway, through the city, into the garage and parking space.

TRAFFIC TELEMATICS

SWARCO partner MIZAR AUTOMAZIONE in Turin is a leading player in the intelligent transport systems industry. Mizar is closely linked to Prof. Vito Mauro, one of Italy's most respected transport experts. Over the years MIZAR has acquired a strong reputation in Europe for its ability to design, develop and implement advanced telematics systems, particularly in the areas of traffic control, fleet management and large-scale integrated ITS applications.

MIZAR's best-known proprietary products, UTOPIA UTC and the public transport management system FLASH, are operating in numerous European cities. The company maintains a strong focus on R&D and is currently involved in several major European research projects such as CVIS, SAFESPOT and COOPERS.

INFOMOBILITY SERVICES

SWARCO is also a shareholder in Verona-based Mizar Mediaservice, a company specialising in infomobility services. The mobility platform comprises the build-up and maintenance of a proprietary real-time traffic information database, the integration of external databases, the building of traffic information and infomobility service components (standards, know-how, models), access to these services for customers, and the licensing of the entire platform to business partners.

An example of STM's integrating capacities is the turnkey public transport system for the City of Oulu in Finland, where Mizar's Flash software provides real-time traveller information to the public. SWARCO was responsible for the complete project, including delivery of the central system, more than 80 LED displays and on-board equipment for 130 buses.
