Implementing a Parking Guidance System in Singapore
04 February 2010Singapore's proposed parking guidance system (PGS) will inform motorists of the availability of car park spaces in major buildings before they reach their destinations, using electronic signboards erected along the main approach roads.
This paper, released by the Singapore Land Transport Authority, discusses the implementation of a PGS for the Marina Centre area. It also looks at the implementation approach adopted, the system's details, how it works and the benefits it provides.
The paper concludes that PGS is expected to shorten the time spent by motorists searching for parking spaces, which will ultimately reduce the circulating traffic on roads and minimise queues for parking, increasing the road capacity and helping reduce illegal parking.
