Term: De-icing

Definition:

De-icing is the process of removing existing snow, sleet, ice and frost precipitation from surfaces. It is a technique used on roads and highways to ensure safer driving conditions as it uses the lower freezing points of depressants, such as salt, to melt through the layer of snow or ice to clear the underlying road surface.
