French company Alstom has presented its new electric road solution, known as APS, at the Volvo Group headquarter in Gothenburg.

The company unveiled the solution when it collaborated with Volvo Group to participate in an Electric Road Systems project, which is initiated by the Swedish Energy Agency.

During this project, Alstom made its APS ground-level electrification solution that is currently used for trams, to be applicable for roads.

As part of this demonstration, the company provided the full electrification system, including conductive power segments built into the surface of the road at the Volvo Group test track and used its APS system to power the electric truck.

Alstom Nordics managing director Rob Whyte said: “Alstom is proud to partner with Volvo Group on this innovative and green technology for electric roads.

“Alstom is proud to partner with Volvo Group on this innovative and green technology for electric roads.”

“Alstom is well known in Sweden for trains and maintenance, but we are now growing in signalling and infrastructure as well.”

The company noted that this new project will contribute to the cleaner mobility, and further expand its green solutions portfolio.

APS for road has been developed in Alstom’s sites in Vitrolles and Saint-Ouen.

Other developments derived from APS, the feeding solution for trams, include SRS, a system designed for the static recharge of trams and electric buses equipped with onboard energy storage.

The company has been present in the Swedish market for more than a decade.

It is currently engaged in delivering a standard national traffic management system to the Swedish Transport Administration, as well as signalling solutions for Tvärbanan tramway in Stockholm.
