UK-based Wokingham Borough Council has selected construction company Balfour Beatty for a £124m Major Highways Programme.

Awarded under the £1.5bn Scape Group’s National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework, the contract works will be carried out for a period of four years.

Under the contract, Balfour Beatty will be responsible for planning, designing and constructing nine vital road schemes in Wokingham.

Additionally, the company will develop four roads that would provide access to 12,000 new housing units in the region.

The council anticipates that the project would address issues such as traffic congestion, enhance accessibility and deliver infrastructure required to support the successful future of Wokingham Borough.

“We are delighted to have been appointed to construct the Major Highways Programme in Wokingham.”

Balfour Beatty UK Construction Services CEO Dean Banks said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to construct the Major Highways Programme in Wokingham.

“We have a wealth of experience in delivering significant highways schemes across the UK and this contract award is yet another testament not only to our in-house engineering capabilities but to our clients’ confidence in our ability to deliver.”

Construction works are set to begin later this month and expected to create more than 150 employment opportunities in the region.

Since 2015, Balfour Beatty has been working with Wokingham Borough Council under the Scape National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework.
