Louis Berger has secured a contract from the Maharashtra State Road Development (MSRDC) to provide project management services for the Versova-Bandra Sea Link (VBSL) project in the city of Mumbai in India.

The $1bn VBSL, a northward extension of the existing Bandra-Worli Sea Link, will be an eight-lane highway nearly 10km long, connecting the western suburbs of Versova and Bandra.

Under the $17m contract, Louis Berger will provide services in three phases.

In the first phase, it will conduct the peer review of the previously compiled techno-economic feasibility study and detailed project report (DPR).

The second phase will involve compilation of tender documents for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the project in addition to management of the bid process.

“Our responsibilities on this significant project will require efficient delivery of top-quality, highly responsive services, and our intent is to exceed MSRDC’s expectations in every respect.”

The company will provide project and construction management services during the construction and defects liability periods in the third phase.

This phase also includes the assessment of the selected EPC contractor’s engineering designs.

Louis Berger Asia managing director and senior vice-president Kshitish Nadgauda said: “Our responsibilities on this significant project will require efficient delivery of top-quality, highly responsive services, and our intent is to exceed MSRDC’s expectations in every respect.”

The project is expected to be completed by late 2021.

Louis Berger has been operating in India for more than 20 years and has worked in multiple sectors, including bridges and tunnels, roads and highways, rail and aviation.
