Mobileye, an Intel Company, and Spain’s road safety authority Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) are set to collaborate to reduce road accidents in the country.

Both entities also agreed to prepare the infrastructure ecosystem and regulatory policy of Spain for the driving of autonomous vehicles.

Mobileye Aftermarket EMEA director Gil Ayalon said: “The visionary leadership within Spain’s DGT is working diligently to ensure the country is prepared for the arrival of autonomous vehicles, and we are honoured to be a trusted partner of theirs in this endeavour.

“We at Mobileye commend the department for their innovative and bold approach to designing the future of transportation in Spain.”

Under the deal, Mobileye and the DGT will encourage ADAS adoption for municipal and private fleets to improve road safety across Spain.

“We at Mobileye commend the department for their innovative and bold approach to designing the future of transportation in Spain.”

They will also carry out a joint research to determine the effectiveness of safety improvement through the usage of Mobileye 8 Connect.

Mobileye 8 Connect procures actionable and dynamic data on city streets and assists in preventing accidents by providing real-time visual and audio alerts.

The data collected will be analysed by the DGT and other government authorities to make the Spanish roads suitable for semi and fully autonomous vehicles operations.

The data will also help in the development of Mobileye RoadBoo and in other research and development projects aimed to improve road safety.

Both entities will also work together to develop a regulatory roadmap and a policy framework for autonomous vehicle operations and safety.
