Kapsch TrafficCom, a provider of intelligent transportation systems, has commenced commercial operations at its Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC-System) in Belarus.

The new electronic toll system, which is deployed on sections of the M1/E30 highway (Brest – Minsk – border with Russian Federation) and on auxiliary roads, such as the connection between Minsk and the international airport of Minsk, replaces manual tolling on 815km of the road network in Belarus.

"Set up by the Belarusian subsidiary of Kapsch, the tolling system is based on Dedicated-Short-Range-Communication-technology."

With the installation of the new system, electronic tolling has been made mandatory for vehicles with a maximum laden weight of more than 3.5t as well as motor vehicles with a maximum laden weight of less than 3.5t, registered outside of the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Set up by the Belarusian subsidiary of Kapsch, the tolling system is based on Dedicated-Short-Range-Communication-technology.

A project team comprising of nearly 90 out of a total of 160 local employees installed 56 tolling and enforcement gantries, with about 48 Customer Service Points in operation.

In addition, the project included implementation of two latest data centres, 500,000 On-Board Units for automatic payment supplied. About 16 specially equipped enforcement vehicles have been handed over to the Belarusian Transport Inspection.

Kapsch secured the contract for implementation and operation of a ETC-System in Belarus in February 2012. The total investment in the project is €267m.
