The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of $315m to Karnataka, India, for a major overhaul of the state highway system.
The $463m Karnataka state highway improvement project entails upgrades of over 600km of state highways and support for improved road planning, operation, maintenance, and safety.
The work also includes expanding current roads into two lanes, constructing bypasses, strengthening existing culverts and bridges, and building new road bridges, rail over bridges and cross-drainage structures.
The project will be executed by the state's Public Works Department and would be complete by December 2014.
