Texas Commences Highway 290 Upgrade Project

The Texas Department of Transportation in the US has broken ground on the $151.5m 610 Loop / Highway 290 interchange project.

The project will see construction of an inbound connection from US 290 and the 610 North Loop to the Katy Freeway as well as a ramp to eliminate traffic weaving across the Loop 610 main lanes to reach US 290.

Project K also includes the reconstruction of the IH 610 North Loop from the IH 610/US 290 interchange to Ella Boulevard and is expected to be completed by January 2015.

Another Project J-1, will build a connection from IH 10 Katy Freeway to outbound US 290 and the IH 610 North Loop, as well as the outbound US 290 frontage road from the IH 610/US 290 interchange to W. 34th Street.

This project is yet to be awarded and will commence construction in 2012.

The 610/290 project is part of $2.8bn US 290 Corridor programme, which will be funded by Proposition 12 funds.
