Alpine Construction, a subsidiary Austrian company of FCC, has completed the new €80m single track of the Kaiser Wilhelm tunnel on the railway line between Koblenz and Perl in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The company has been building the tunnel for Deutsche Bahn, parallel to the existing tunnel, since the end of 2009.

The new tunnel has a length of 4.2km and a diameter of 9m.

Both of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Tunnels will be linked by eight cross passages, each with a length of 15m.

Trains on the new tunnel will be running by the end of 2012, when the old Kaiser Wilhelm tunnel will be renovated.
