Bosch Software Innovations has developed charging apps in Germany that enable drivers of electric vehicles to use their smart phones to get access to public and web-enabled charging infrastructure.

Offered in cooperation with leading automakers, the charging apps make electromobility simple, flexible, and customer-friendly.

Operators of charge points have been incorporated into the firm’s growing network. These operators in turn benefit from increased use of their infrastructure.

"These apps are compatible with the iOS and Android operating systems and can be downloaded for free."

The firm plans to roll out the apps in other European markets soon.

Currently, the charging apps are available from Smart and Mercedes-Benz, with Renault soon to follow.

Around 3,700 public charging points in Germany are accessible through the apps.

These apps are a part of Bosch’s global connectivity strategy.

Through its technology, Bosch Software Innovations is bringing several players such as auto makers, charge point operators, energy providers, retailers, and electric car drivers, on one software platform.

The apps are claimed to be example of an Internet of Things application through which charging stations are connected together.

The technological basis for the apps is the cloud-enabled Bosch IoT Suite software package meant for the development of IoT applications.

Bosch Software Innovations product manager Kai Weber said: "With the charging apps, we are bringing the Internet of Things and electromobility together."
