The Chinese Government has signed an agreement with the Philippines Government in order to finance the construction of two bridges.

Binondo-Intramuros and Estrella-Pantelon bridges are expected to become the landmark structures in the cities of Manila, Makati and Mandaluyong.

Philippines Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar explained that the fund amount will be used for the design and construction of bridges, and DPWH will be responsible for the acquisition of its road right-of-way.

The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge will cover a length of 807m, including a 90m main bridge, 488m Binondo at approach, and 193m upramp and 166m downramp at Intramuros approaches.

"It will feature a four-lane, and a steel bowstring arch bridge with inclined arches that will establish a new connectivity."

It will feature a four-lane, and a steel bowstring arch bridge with inclined arches that will establish a new connectivity to the Intramuros side at Solana Street and Riverside Drive, as well as Binondo side at San Fernando Street with a viaduct.

Meanwhile, Estrella-Pantelon Bridge will also feature four lanes, but it will be a 560m Twin Spine steel box girder bridge with concrete deck slab, and will use the existing approaches at Makati City and Mandaluyong City sides, that will be modified slightly in order to accommodate new bridge superstructure.

Construction of these two bridges will be implemented by the DPWH Unified Project Management Office-Roads Management Cluster I.

The Philippines Government also expects funding for its two other projects Panay-Guimaras-Negros Link Bridges and Davao City Expressway from the Chinese Government after completion of a feasibility study.
