The Government of Queensland and the Scenic Rim Regional Council have initiated construction works of the A$27.5m ($20.64m) Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass project.

The Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass will begin at the intersection of the Mount Lindesay Highway at Helen Street and connect to Bromelton Street, providing new signalised intersections at each end.

The project is slated for completion by the end of this year.

"The town centre bypass will provide a more efficient route and has a long-term role as part of the local Beaudesert road network."

Queensland Minister for Infrastructure Jackie Trad said: “It’s great to be back in Beaudesert for the start of major works on the Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass.

"The Palaszczuk Government and local council are investing in this major infrastructure project to support growth in the Scenic Rim area.

“We’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of vehicles travelling through Beaudesert over the last few years with more than 13,000 vehicles passing through the township per day.

“This has been negatively impacting on local traffic and the Beaudesert bypass will provide an alternative route for these vehicles not intending to stop in town.”

Trad further said that this new project will provide both immediate as well as long-term benefits to the region by attracting investment and supporting jobs creation.

Currently, the bypass construction works is expected to create employment opportunities to approximately 85 jobs in the region.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said: "Construction of the town centre bypass is vital for Beaudesert and will also enable Council to progress with its master plan to revitalise the town centre.

"The town centre bypass will provide a more efficient route and has a long-term role as part of the local Beaudesert road network."

The government has awarded the construction contract to SEE Civil firm in November last year, with site establishment undertaken before Christmas.
