The Lagiewnicka Route, part of Poland’s Krakow by-pass route, will receive financial aid from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK).

By contributing PLN400m (€93m), the EIB is the major lender for the project, while the BGK is providing PLN298m (€69.3m).

The route, which will include a 3.7km dual carriageway ring-road including tunnels and a new 1.7km tram line, will help reduce congestion in Krakow region. The route will be ready by 2020.

TomTom (TOM2) has been selected to provide its live traffic data system for Frankfurt and Düsseldorf traffic management centres in Germany.

The new systems will complement the existing intelligent traffic control system by combining the road sensor information with the live traffic data, thus providing enhanced view of the cities’ traffic flows.

The systems optimise the efficiency of road networks and help reduce congestion, fuel consumption and minimise travel times.
