Devon County Council has awarded a £245m ($300.54m) maintenance contract to Skanska for the maintenance of highways in southwest England.

Beginning on 1 April 2017, the seven-year contract includes planned and reactive maintenance work, as well as emergency response and horticulture management.

The works will be completed by March 2024, with an option to extend for three more years.

Traffic management solutions provider, Econolite Group, intends to initiate a partnership with Savari, a wireless sensor technology and software provider based in California, US.

The two companies have started negotiations to accelerate the use of connected and automated vehicle technologies and solutions with a focus on vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) safety applications.

They will focus on developing Savari’s StreetWAVE road-side-units (RSUs) and Econolite’s intelligent transportation system (ITS) solutions, which will leverage the former’s latest V2I safety applications such as curve speed warning (CSW), work zone warning (WZW) and in-vehicle signal phase and timing (SPaT).

The safety applications provide key information about the roadway to drivers, thus helping to reduce accidents and fatalities.
