UK-based Delphi Automotive and Israel’s Innoviz Technologies have signed a commercial partnership agreement to supply LiDAR solutions for autonomous vehicles.

Under the agreement, Innoviz's LiDAR sensing solutions will be integrated into Delphi’s system to provide a complete portfolio of autonomous driving technologies to automobile manufacturers.

Delphi Automotive senior vice-president and chief technology officer Glen De Vos said: "Along with radar and vision technology, LiDAR is an essential component of Delphi's automated driving perception suite.

"Delphi shares our vision for making vehicles smarter and safer."

"Innoviz is developing a product that provides a high-performance intelligent sensing solution to help advance automated driving technology."

Innoviz’s LiDAR technology has been designed to deliver long-range scanning performance with precision object detection capabilities.

Long-range LiDAR is important for Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous vehicles to enable high-speed travel, as they are required to identify far off objects in enhanced detail in order to operate safely.

Innoviz Technologies co-founder and CEO Omer Keilaf said: "Delphi shares our vision for making vehicles smarter and safer.

"By challenging the conventions of LiDAR design, we were able to develop a LiDAR solution that delivers superior performance at a reasonable price and in a much smaller footprint, three factors that are required to help autonomous driving achieve mass commercialisation."

Delphi has made a minor investment in the Israeli company in order to strengthen its new commercial partnership.

The company has technical centres, manufacturing sites and customer support locations in 46 countries.
