The Philippines Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is planning to build several infrastructure projects in Cebu under the directives of the country's president Rodrigo Duterte.

DPWH will work towards decongesting major roads and also implement an integrated seamless transport system in the region.

Philippines Department of Public Works and Highways secretary Mark Villar said: “Among the 'big ticket' projects to be implemented include the highly anticipated 74km Metro Cebu Expressway Project, which will reduce travel from Naga City to Danao City from three hours to one hour and 25 minutes.

"We have already completed the feasibility study of the PHP50bn ($1bn) Metro Cebu Expressway Project. It will be implemented in three segments."

"The $10m project will shorten travel time Barangay Guadalupe to Barangay Lahug by 50%, from one hour to only 30 minutes."

The PHP50bn ($1bn) Metro Cebu Expressway Project is part of president Duterte‘s infrastructure programme, called BuildBuildBuild, which has been developed to enhance productive capacity of the economy and create jobs through infrastructure projects.

The transport authority also intends to build four lanes Guadalupe-Lahug By-Pass Road with a total length of 1.61km in the city of Cebu to reduce traffic congestion in the region.

Villar further added: “The project with an estimated cost of PHP500m ($10m) will shorten travel time Barangay Guadalupe to Barangay Lahug by 50% from one hour to only 30 minutes.

“In addition, a feasibility study is now ongoing for the construction of Mandaue City-Consolacion-Liloan Bypass Road, which is expected to bring down travel time from Cebu City to the Municipality of Liloan by 50%.”
