Traffic diversion

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started works on Sheikh Zayed Road, in a move to divert traffic as a part of the water canal project.

Expected to begin near Safa Park, the initial 1km-long traffic diversion phase is slated for completion by October 2015.

RTA Traffic and Roads Agency CEO Maitha bin Udai said: "The Abu Dhabi-bound traffic stream will be routed to the new traffic diversion, while maintaining the traffic movement outbound from Abu Dhabi on the Sheikh Zayed Road.

"Parallel to this, the RTA will be starting construction works on the northern bridge in the direction of Dubai on the Sheikh Zayed Road after routing the traffic movement directly to the diversion."

"Works for the water canal project have been split in three contracts."
