US-based provider of traffic management solutions Econolite has launched its new traffic controller software, EOS.

The new software has been designed to enhance existing traffic control capabilities in order to help the agencies to meet the future traffic demands of connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) and smart city traffic control systems.

Econolite Engineering vice-president Eric Raamot said: "EOS represents new levels of operational efficiency and capability for traffic controller software.

"EOS provides improved real-time decision-making by enabling dynamic ‘on-the-fly’ changes to phase timing, sequencing, and coordinated split control, serving the immediate needs of connected and autonomous vehicle applications."

"EOS provides improved real-time decision-making by enabling dynamic ‘on-the-fly’ changes to phase timing, sequencing, and coordinated split control, serving the immediate needs of connected and autonomous vehicle applications."

The company explained that its new web-based user interface traffic control software is built on robust dynamic core framework, and is compatible with Econolite Cobalt ATC, Safetran 2070C, and other properly configured ATC controllers.

With the help of its new coordinator design, EOS can make instant coordination decisions rather than waiting for a cycle endpoint.

EOS also includes traffic control phase timing and sequencing modules to support real-time changes to signal phase sequencing and timing and J2735 dedicated short range communications (DSRC) messages such as SPaT/MAP, supporting CAV applications.

EOS serves as a necessary software bridge to enable vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, which is a critical component of the CAV equation.
