Exim Bank of China has extended its KES16.9bn ($184m) loan to Kenya to finance construction of the southern by-pass road project, which will complete the loop of three bypasses easing traffic on Nairobi city roads.

The funds will finance construction of a 28.6km dual-carriage road, which will run from Mombasa road to Gitaru in Kikuyu, as well as 16.5km service roads and six interchanges.

Loan from the Exim Bank of China will meet 85% of the project costs, while the remaining monies will be provided by the Kenyan Government.

Tender for the project is planned to be floated soon, with the project expected to be complete in three years.
