The Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, has announced a $78m project to enhance the safety and mobility on Interstate 95 (I-95) and J. Turner Butler Boulevard (JTB) in Jacksonville.

The new project will relieve congestion on the I-95 / JTB intersection, which is considered to be a challenge for many citizens, and as a result, will lower waiting times and improve commerce.

The latest investment will focus on three primary improvements; the first of which is the construction of a flyover ramp for I-95 southbound traffic heading east on to Butler Boulevard by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in order to ease free flowing direct link to JTB.

Construction of an overpass for JTB westbound traffic to pass over the westbound traffic from Belfort Road is the second improvement, which is expected to eliminate the merging conflicts and lower congestion at Belfort Road.

"The investment will help both families and businesses by reducing traffic waiting times."

The project also includes the reconstruction of the I-95 northbound off-ramp by FDOT in order to provide direct access to westbound JTB from I-95 northbound, the movement which is currently prohibited.

Governor Scott said that the investment will help both families and businesses by reducing traffic waiting times.

"For the 24,000 drivers who have an excessive wait time to get off I-95 every afternoon, this will improve their commute so they can spend more quality time at home with their families, and less time on the road," the governor added.

FDOT Secretary Ananth Prasad said that the Governor Scott’s transportation budget completely funds the department’s improvements, which will increase capacity, lessen congestion and create private-sector jobs.

Governor Scott recently announced a $140m investment for improvements along Southwest Florida’s Interstate 75 corridor.
