Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is considering a partnership with the Rwandan Government to further entrench safer road use within the region.

The move is in line with an on-going drive by the Nigerian Government to provide technical assistance to establish sustainable road safety management in Africa.

"The FRSC has been developing its road safety management and traffic administration by investing in personnel and technology."

Corps Marshal and FRSC CEO Boboye Oyeyemi said that the FRSC has been developing its road safety management and traffic administration by investing in personnel and technology.

He also noted that the FRSC has benefited from the World Bank’s support on road rehabilitation and enhanced capacity for enforcement of road traffic rules and regulations under the Safe Corridor Project in Nigeria, following a resolution that 10% of road construction funding will be set aside for safety components, such as road markings, signage, logistics and other relevant infrastructure, to guarantee safer road use.

Oyeyemi added that through this scheme, the FRSC has acquired patrol vehicles, motorbikes, heavy-duty tow trucks, life support ambulances, breathalysers, radar guns and other facilities.

He implored the Rwandan Government to key into this initiative, which will boost road safety consciousness in the region, adding that the FRSC Academy can also train the country’s traffic officers on the best global practices for road safety management.
