US-based Granite Construction has won a $64m contract from the Florida Department of Transportation to widen approximately 1.5 miles of the existing Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway in Tampa.

The company will widen the expressway from four to six lanes while maintaining two open lanes of traffic at all times.

The project also includes the installation of precast bridge beams, drilled foundations, placed concrete and the replacement of several existing bridge decks.

Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2011 and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2013.
