India-based GVK Group has been awarded the conract for the four-laning of Shivpuri-Dewas section in Madhya Pradesh by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The Rs40bn ($798m) project includes the widening and strengthening of the 332km two-lane highway to a four-lane road.

The project road lies on Mumbai-Agra highway, which connects western and central India to northern India and passes entirely through Madhya Pradesh, carrying long-distance freight traffic.

The concession period for the project is 30 years, with a construction period of 30 months.

The toll project will be executed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis, and operated under the National Highways Development Programme (Phase IV) of NHAI.
