Idaho Transportation Department has started one of the two projects on Interstate 84 (I-84) in Jerome County to rehabilitate and extend the life of the driving surface.

The transport department added that the traffic restrictions will be in place until mid-July. During this period, commuters can expect reduced speed limits through each construction zone and a 14ft width limit will be in effect for wide loads.

The first project began on 20 June will see the reconstruction of eastbound lanes of I-84 from the Idaho 50 interchange (Exit 182) to Valley Road (Exit 188).

Idaho Transportation Department has awarded this contract to the Boise-based construction firm Knife River

The $10.9m project will see improvements to the irrigation crossings, roadway drainage and reconstruction of on and off-ramps at both interchanges. It is slated for completion by mid-November.

The second project is expected to begin on 27 June, which will include a full-width paving on the westbound lanes between the Northside Canal and Kasota Road interchange (Exit 201).

Idaho Materials and Construction of Twin Falls will execute the works of the second project, which are estimated to cost $4m.

The top layer of existing road surface will be removed and asphalt will be placed on the seven-mile section. The new surface will then be completed with a seal coat before reopening to traffic in early August.

The project also includes paving of westbound ramps at the Kasota Road interchange, replacement of guardrail, and delineators.

Idaho Materials and Construction of Twin Falls is the contractor for the $4m project. The eastbound lanes in this portion of I-84 were completed in 2016.
