The Indian State of Himachal Pradesh is set to deploy iMAAP and iMAAP Mobile Solutions, which were developed by the UK’s Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), for better management of road accident data.

Based on the latest multiple platform technologies, TRL’s iMAAP helps manage, analyse and evaluate the road traffic crash data, resulting in the reduction of the number of serious and fatal road traffic accidents occurring in the region.

The software solution will provide the Himachal Pradesh government, police, road authorities, as well as other stakeholders, with the necessary information to target road safety interventions.

"iMAAP helps manage, analyse and evaluate the road traffic crash data."

iMAAP, the new generation MAAP, is a product that TRL has been supplying in the UK and worldwide since the 1980s.

According to TRL, it is the most widely used off-the-shelf crash data system in the world.

In addition to the general road safety problems, Himachal Pradesh faces several unique challenges due to the terrain and extreme weather conditions.

With the help of iMAAP and iMAAP, the state’s police can collect real-time road traffic accident data at the incident location using tablet computers and mobile phones.

The system will also provide powerful analytical tools that help in the identification of accident trends and cluster sights, enabling the deployment of more efficient and effective road safety interventions.

Supported by the World Bank, the new project was launched by the Himachel Pradesh secretary of state for transport in the capital city Shimla.
