INRIX has developed INRIX XD Traffic, an intelligence system that significantly improves the accuracy of traffic information, and covers twice as many roads compared with the previous service.

With real-time traffic data across about four million miles of roads in 37 countries, the system provides insight into the events on the road independent of the country or map provider.

INRIX president and CEO Bryan Mistele said future mobility depends on all drivers, transportation agencies, and news organisations having access to a detailed, up-to-the-minute insight into road data.

"Just as INRIX revolutionised mapping and navigation with crowd-sourced traffic information and traffic influenced routing, we’re doing it again with INRIX XD Traffic," Mistele said.

The traffic system delivers detailed speeds for every mile down to 800ft increments for improved route guidance to drivers and better insight to transportation agencies, while removing the cost and complexity of associating traffic with locations on a map.

The service automatically detects road closures and other incidents faster than the present crowd-sourced methods.

It also provides real-time traffic information for every major road type and class, including highways, ramps, interchanges, arterials, city streets and other secondary roads.

INRIX Traffic app is available for download to iPhone and Android users.

Meanwhile, INRIX is also expanding its collaboration with BMW, Volkswagen and leading transportation agencies for apps and services using its existing traffic information services.
