Jacobs Engineering Group (Jacobs) has secured a contract from Florida's Turnpike Enterprise to provide design services for the expansion of the Sawgrass Expressway in South Florida, US.

The contract includes the construction of two new express lanes in each direction, as well as the expansion of the existing roads from six to ten lanes.

Under the contract, Jacobs will be responsible for providing design services for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of three interchanges.

According to Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, the project has an estimated construction value of $125m.

Jacobs Buildings and Infrastructure president Bob Pragada said: “Jacobs has served as the operations and maintenance consultant to Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise for 25 years.

“By combining past experience with our interchange design expertise, our goal is to assist Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise in fulfilling its pledge to provide high-value transportation options to its patrons while meeting and exceeding project objectives.”

The Sawgrass Expressway Widening project is expected to increase the road's capacity, improve travel time reliability, and enhance safety for commuters in South Florida.
