Jenoptik Traffic Solutions has secured a contract from the Western Australia Police (WAPOL) for the delivery, installation, maintenance and in part, operation of an initial 81 traffic monitoring systems.

The contract is for a period of seven years, with a scope for extension for another four years for additional camera systems.

The order value for these 81 systems including service for the first seven years is AUD28m (approximately €20m). The company anticipates the volume could increase to AUD60m (approximately €40m).

The German company will deliver the 81 systems over a period of three years.

These systems come with mobile and stationary speed enforcement and red-light monitoring facilities.

WAPOL will use the systems for upgrading the existing measuring stations, as well as setting up additional measuring points.

The initiative is part of of a long-term strategy pursued by the Australian state for improving traffic safety.

Jenoptik will install TraffiStar series camera systems, which are based on radar or laser technology.

The company's Australian branch will install and maintain, as well as operate the stationary systems.

Jenoptik has approximately 66 employees in the country.
