The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) in the US has awarded a contract to Grady Crawford Construction Company and Gannett Fleming to build the Baton Rouge to New Orleans Intelligent Transportation System – Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Phase 3 project.

The $8m project will span 68 miles, including sections of Interstate-10, Interstate-12, Interstate-110, and US Highway 61.

The ITS system will deliver an efficient communications network to detect and view traffic conditions and disseminate information relating to crash, detour, and congestion to drivers.

Grady Crawford will design the dynamic message signs, CCTV cameras, microwave detection sites, and a fibre optic cable backbone network.

Gannett Fleming will provide platform for implementing ITS, including analysis, planning, design, equipment procurement, construction management, systems integration, testing, troubleshooting, and operations.

The project is scheduled to complete in mid-2012.
