The Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Infrastructure Development Projects’ water and renewable energy and EFKON business units have placed bids to implement highway traffic management systems (HTMS) and intelligent transport system (ITS) projects worth INR4.5bn ($73.2m) in Hyderabad, India.

Under the project, the companies will build HTMS related facilities and deploy intelligent transport systems on the outskirts and within the city respectively, reported The Times of India.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had previously issued notices for companies to place bids for design, supply, installation, commission, testing, warranty, remedying defects, operation and maintenance of these projects.

"The bidding process for both projects would be completed in the next couple of months."

According to HMDA officials, they have already filtered companies based on their eligibility criteria, such as experience in transportation management system, financial capabilities and other qualifications for the HTMS project.

For Hyderabad ITS, HMDA has received bids from four firms, including L&T Security Solutions Initiative unit, EFKON-STRABAG-GMR consortium and L&T electrical and automation division.

However, the L&T electrical and automation unit later withdrew from the consortium as its group member is also participating in the tenders.

HMDA officials are currently evaluating the firms, following which they will issue request for proposal to the four bidders.

HMDA chief general manager B Anand Mohan said: "The bidding process for both projects would be completed in the next couple of months.

"The intelligent transportation system would be in place by February next year."
