Drivers are responsible for 78% of the accidents that happened during 2009 in India, according to a report released by the Transport Research Wing of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

According to the report, Road Accidents in India, pedestrians were at fault for 2.2% of accidents and cyclists were responsible for 1.2% of accidents.

While defects in road conditions was responsible for 1.3% accidents, defects in motor vehicles were responsible for 1.8% of cases, the weather was to blame for 0.8% of incidents, while 14.2% of accidents happened due to other causes.

The report has been compiled based on road accidents data and related parameters, including factors causing road accidents across the country.
