The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) in the US, will be investing $60m to carry out reconstruction work of 3.7 miles of the M-59 (Hall Road).

It is reported that the two-year project will occur between March and October this year and March and October 2018.

The reconstruction works will commence from March this year, and works will occur from M-53 to west of Garfield Road, and in 2018, construction works will begin from west of Garfield Road to Romeo Plank Road.

"In the first year new modern traffic signals, sign replacement, enhanced landscaping, and other aesthetic improvements are planned as well."

Upon completion of the project, MDOT expects that the reconstruction works would enhance the life of the roadway and allow for better traffic flow along Macomb County's ‘Golden Corridor.’

The construction works during the first year include, replacing all concrete with new asphalt, improving drainage, ramps and sidewalks upgrade which would align with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and new sidewalk will be added to fill in the missing gaps along M-59.

In the first year new modern traffic signals, sign replacement, enhanced landscaping, and other aesthetic improvements are planned as well.

During the second year, a fourth lane will be added to both sides of M-59 between Garfield and Romeo Plank roads.

MDOT further explained that three lanes will be open in each direction between east of M-53 and Romeo Plank Road will be open to traffic  during the day time from 6am to 9pm, except for the M-59 bridge over M-53, where only two lanes will be opened in each direction.
