On-street parking

US-based parking data provider ParkMe has collaborated with Xerox to expand coverage of real-time street parking availability in Hollywood and Venice in Los Angeles, US.

The latest solution is expected to save time and money for drivers while eliminating stress as they navigate the city.

According to ParkMe, the availability of the parking solution in these communities will extend coverage of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s LA Express Park programme.

ParkMe uses Xerox’s MERGE platform to help travellers improve their driving and parking habits, which are said to cut down urban traffic congestion by 30%.

"The ability for people to access up-to-the-minute information cuts emissions and helps cities improve traffic flow."

ParkMe co-founder and COO Alex Israel said: "From sensor-based infrastructures to proprietary algorithmic models, we are looking forward to a deeper expansion that will bring intelligent parking solutions to an even wider audience throughout the nation.

"With success in Las Vegas, Miami Beach and Austin, ParkMe is creating a streamlined city traffic model by empowering drivers with smart information."

Following the expansion of the parking solution, the drivers in Hollywood and Venice will be able to access reliable real-time rates, hours and availability when required and can easily find the best parking spot.

Xerox senior vice-president David Cummins said: "This solution goes beyond just making parking easier.

"The ability for people to access up-to-the-minute information cuts emissions and helps cities improve traffic flow."

ParkMe provides real-time and static parking data and analytics to navigation companies, automotive OEMs, internet search and mapping portals, municipalities, parking operators and consumer smartphone platforms.
