ParkMe

ParkMe, a US-based provider of real-time parking data, has partnered with the cities of Los Angeles and Santa Monica in California, to offer motorists an easier way to find data on parking availability.

The new service is expected to enhance transportation operations by reducing parking problems in Los Angeles County.

The partnerships will enable drivers in the cities to save time and money by finding the closest and cheapest parking facilities available in real-time.

Los Angeles City Council 13th District Council member Eric Garcetti said that the difficulties in finding an open spot for parking cause nearly 30% of traffic congestion in busy areas.

"ParkMe will reduce stress for Angelenos, reduce traffic and help businesses," Garcetti added.

To help drivers in downtown Los Angeles, ParkMe has teamed up with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) as a part of the LA Express Park programme.

The parking data provider is helping boost the programme’s spot-finding capabilities by adding all of the public parking areas and garages in downtown to LA Express Park’s real-time parking pricing and availability information.

ParkMe communicates data on parking metre pricing and occupancy, hours of operation, payment method and direct entrance points to garages, while motorists can access this information on the LA Express Park website, ParkMe’s free iOS app and the official website.

The city of Santa Monica is also set to roll out its own app, powered by ParkMe, in order to manage its increasing traffic flow through smart parking.

This new app will help motorists find the availability of all parking metres and occupancy at public facilities in real-time. The data will also be streamed to the ParkMe’s app.

Based in California, ParkMe provides parking information to navigation companies and smartphones.

It collects and aggregates data for both on-street and off-street parking into a database, which includes over 25,000 worldwide locations in more than 500 cities, 19 countries and three continents.
