A new report has revealed that that 14% of all drivers in Spain admit to not securing their children in the car before travelling.

The latest report by the Fundación Línea Directa also noted that five million motorists still ignore wearing a seatbelt during short journeys.

The report released by the DGT traffic department polled 1,200 drivers in the country, enquiring about the irresponsible behaviour on the roads.

In Spain, nearly 15 million road users confess to driving over the speed limit and 44% of drivers admit not stopping every two hours, while approximately seven million of them admit to using their mobile phone.

As part of the survey, nearly five million drivers said they ignore wearing a seatbelt and 14% carry children in the vehicles without mandatory security measures.

Almost five million drivers do not maintain the exact distance from the car in front and 21% of the respondents claim to drive too close.

As revealed in the report, 35% of the drivers are not aware of parking restrictions and almost 14% do not know who has priority when exiting a roundabout.

Almost half of the drivers do not know how to deal during emergency responses and 27% of them unaware of how to react to aquaplaning, the report added.
