The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA) has extended a contract with TransCore, a US-based company that provides transportation solutions, for another five years to carry out customer service operations and maintenance services on the Salik Toll System.

As part of the new contract, TransCore will be responsible for upgrading the existing systems including software updates, servers, increased network and storage capacity, and new roadside equipment.

As part of RTA’s Smart Government and Customer Happiness initiative, TransCore has recently designed and developed a new customer application that would enhance the level of self-service capabilities, as well as created an online tolltag sales portal, and also upgraded the Salik website.

TransCore Middle East managing director Karim Rizkallah said: “The Roads and Transport Authority has made an inspiring commitment to pursue transportation innovations that directly impact the quality of life for motorists throughout Dubai.

“We commend the RTA on these initiatives, and are proud to provide continued enhancements to the Salik Toll System.”

Since 2006, TransCore has been working with RTA to design, build, install and maintain Open Road Tolling (ORT) system to better manage area traffic. Once completed, the Salik Toll System became the world’s widest and free-flowing tolling zone, featuring over seven ORT lanes in either direction.

As part of the project, TransCore also designed and developed back office software solution, offering customer service account management, revenue collection, and violation processing.

Currently, Salik Toll System processes more than 500 million transactions annually.
